Clear the field without hitting a mine. Mine Sweep is a free mine-finding logic puzzle. Dig up safe tiles, read the numbers to spot hidden mines, flag them and clear the board against the clock.
How to play
The board is a grid of covered tiles with mines hidden under some of them. Tap a tile to dig it up. If it’s safe, it shows a number: how many of its eight neighbouring tiles hide a mine. A blank tile means no mines are nearby, so the game opens up its neighbours for you and keeps going until it reaches numbers.
Use the numbers to work out where the mines are, flag the ones you’ve found and dig everything else. You win when every safe tile is open. Hit a mine and the game is over.
Your first tap is always safe. The mines are placed after it, and the tile you tapped and everything around it is guaranteed clear, so you always start with an open area.
Flags and chording
- Long-press a tile for 400 milliseconds (a ring fills up around it) to plant or remove a flag.
- Prefer a button? Switch on Flag at the bottom left. While it’s on, a tap places flags and a long-press digs.
- On a computer, right-click to flag.
- Chording: tap an open number whose flags already match it and all of its remaining neighbours are dug up in one go. Be careful, because a wrong flag means you’ll uncover a mine.
The counter on the left shows how many mines are left, which is the number of mines minus your flags. On a computer you can also use the arrow keys to move, Space to dig and F to flag.
Board sizes
Choose a size at the bottom of the screen. A new board starts straight away.
- 9×9 with 10 mines.
- 10×14 with 20 mines.
- 12×18 with 35 mines, a tall board that suits a phone held upright.
Scoring
There’s no score to chase here. The timer starts on your first tap and stops when the game ends, and when you clear the board the result screen shows your time. Try to beat your own time on each size.
Tips
- Start with the ones. A 1 with only one covered neighbour tells you exactly where a mine is.
- Look for patterns. Two numbers that share neighbours often settle a tile that one number alone can’t.
- Flag as you go. Flags make chording possible, which saves a lot of taps on a big board.
- Don’t guess early. If nothing is certain, look for the tile with the fewest possible mines around it.
Why it’s fun
Mine Sweep is a classic logic puzzle with clean, bright tiles and a satisfying ripple when a big area opens up. Rounds are short, and every board is different.
