Draw loops, claim land, cut the bots' trails. Trail Turf is a free territory capture io-style game. Swipe to steer, draw loops to claim land, cut rival trails and grab the biggest share of the map.
How to play
You are the red block on a small patch of red land in a big square arena. Five computer rivals share it, each with its own colour and patch. Swipe up, down, left or right to steer. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys or W, A, S and D. You can’t reverse on the spot, so to turn around, swipe twice.
At the start your block waits for your first swipe. Leave it alone for a few seconds and it sets off upward by itself. After that it never stops moving.
The moment you step off your land, you leave a trail behind you. Bring the trail back to any part of your land and the loop closes: the trail turns into land, and so does every cell your trail and land wall in. That includes neutral ground and any rival land caught inside.
The edge of the arena is a wall. If you run into it, your block slides along it. Ground pressed up against the wall only counts as walled in if your own land and trail close it off. The wall doesn’t help you.
Rules
- While your trail is open, anyone who touches it knocks you out, and that ends the run.
- Running into your own trail knocks you out too, so mind the tight turns.
- When you touch a bot’s open trail, that bot is out. All its land goes back to neutral, ready for you to take, and a fresh bot drops in a few seconds later.
- A rival whose land gets completely swallowed by your loop is out as well.
Scoring
Your score is the share of the whole map you own, shown as a percentage at the top of the screen. When you are knocked out, your share at that moment is your final score. The end screen also shows your peak share and how many bots you cut. The board in the bottom left corner ranks the top four players, and the minimap in the bottom right shows the whole arena, including every open trail.
Tips
- Short loops are safe loops. A quick three-sided hop out and back adds land without leaving a long trail to defend.
- Watch the minimap. If a bot is heading your way, cut your loop short and dive home.
- Bots get greedy too. When you spot a long trail, nip in and touch it to wipe out that bot’s land.
- Grow along your own edge. Loops that start and end on your land add a strip each time, and that adds up fast.
- Follow the arrow. When you are far from home, a red arrow points back to where your trail started.
Every loop asks the same question: how far do you dare to go? Your best share is saved on your device.
