Ten tiny tests of how well you see, time and judge. Perception IQ is a free daily perception test game. Guess dot counts, angles, landing spots, rhythm and colours in ten quick tests, then get a score out of 100.

How to play

Perception IQ is a new puzzle every day: ten tiny tests of how well your eyes, hands and inner clock judge things. Everyone gets the same tests on the same day, so you can compare with friends. Press Play, read each test’s card, press Ready, and give your best answer. A run takes about two minutes. After today’s puzzle, extra runs are practice rounds with fresh tests.

  1. Count. After a 3, 2, 1 countdown, dots flash for two seconds. Type how many there were.
  2. Track. A ball is thrown and disappears in mid-air. Tap the spot on the line where it will land.
  3. Angle. Drag the line to an exact angle, such as 112°, counter-clockwise from the dashed horizontal. Letting go locks it in.
  4. Tempo. Turn your sound on. Tap along with the clicks. After four taps on the beat they stop, and you keep the same beat for eight more taps. A shrinking ring shows when the next click lands.
  5. Split. Press, slide and let go to mark a point such as 3/4 of the way along a line.
  6. Hold. Press and hold for an exact time, like 3.4 seconds, with no clock on screen.
  7. Hue. A colour shows for a moment. Slide along the rainbow to make it again.
  8. Lines. Make two lines the same length while little fins on their ends trick your eye.
  9. Area. Resize a circle or square until it covers the same area as the other shape.
  10. Impact. A ball rolls into a tunnel. Tap the moment it hits the wall.

On a computer you can type numbers in Count, use the arrow keys for lines, sliders and the angle, hold Space for Hold, tap Space for Tempo and Impact, and press Enter to lock in.

Scoring

Every test turns how far off you were into 0 to 100 points, with a letter grade from S down to F. A perfect answer earns 100. Each test has a “half-way” mistake that earns 50: 10 degrees for Angle, about 25% for Count, 40 pixels for Track, and so on.

Your Perception IQ is the average of the ten tests, out of 100, with its own grade. The results screen shows a chart of your strengths, then every test with how far off you were (“Off by 3 dots”, “drift 14 ms, jitter 14 ms”). Once enough people have played, it also shows how many players took today’s puzzle, their average, and what share of them you beat, overall and on each test. Good runs land on the worldwide top five, and you can send a friend a link to beat your score.

Tips

  • In Count, don’t count. Picture the dots in a few groups and estimate each group.
  • In Track, watch the top of the arc. The ball comes down the same way it went up.
  • In Tempo, nod along or tap your foot so the beat keeps going when the clicks stop. A missed tap only costs that one beat.
  • In Lines, the line with fins pointing outwards always looks longer than it is.
  • In Area, a circle that just fits inside a square covers only about three quarters of it.
