Sinkhole Rush

Swallow the city before the clock runs out. Sinkhole Rush is a free arcade hole game. Steer a growing sinkhole through a busy city and swallow people, cars, trees and towers in two minutes.

How to play

You are a hole in the ground, and the city is your lunch. Press anywhere on the screen and drag to steer. It works like a floating joystick: the further you drag from where you first pressed, the faster the hole moves, and if your finger keeps going the joystick follows it. Let go and the hole glides to a stop. On a computer you can drag with the mouse, or use the arrow keys or WASD.

Anything smaller than the hole falls in once it is mostly over the opening. People, bins, benches, trees and parked cars are the first things that fit. Every swallow makes the hole a little wider, so after a few streets you can take on kiosks, buses and houses, and later whole office blocks and towers. Things that are about to fit wobble toward the rim when you get close.

Anything too big for you is solid: it blocks the edge of the hole, so you slide around it rather than through it. Come back once you have grown. The camera pulls back as you grow, so you can always see your next meal.

The city is different every round. Blocks can be parks with fountains and trees, rows of houses, shops, or tall downtown towers in the middle of the map. Cars drive along the east–west roads, and people stroll around the sidewalks and through the parks.

Scoring

Each round lasts two minutes. Everything you swallow adds points based on its size:

  • People and hydrants: 1. Bins: 2. Benches: 3. Trees: 5.
  • Cars: 8. Kiosks: 12. Fountains: 20. Buses: 25. Houses: 30.
  • Office buildings: 60 and +1 second on the clock.
  • Towers: 150 and +3 seconds on the clock.

The timer pill turns red in the last ten seconds. When it hits zero the round ends and your score is saved if it is a new best.

Tips

  • Start small and fast. The first twenty seconds decide your round. Sweep the sidewalks for people, bins and benches, then grab the parked cars along the north–south roads.
  • Follow the traffic. Moving cars are worth more than street clutter, and a whole lane of them is a quick meal.
  • Parks are buffets. A park full of trees and bushes can double your size in a few seconds.
  • Don’t waste time on walls. If a building blocks you, it is not ready yet. Go around and come back later.
  • Save the towers for the end. The bonus seconds from big buildings can stretch a good round well past two minutes.

Every round is short, so it is easy to play one more and beat your best.
