Hop across roads, rivers and rails without a scratch. Hop Lane is a free endless lane-crossing arcade game. Tap to hop through traffic, ride logs over rivers, dodge trains and see how far you can get.
How to play
You are a small blocky chicken at the bottom of an endless field of lanes. Tap anywhere (or press Up, W or Space) to hop one row forward. Swipe left or right to hop one step to the side, and swipe down to hop back a row. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys or WASD. You can queue one extra hop while you are in the air, so quick taps feel smooth.
Each row is one of four kinds:
- Grass is safe. Trees block the way, so if a hop bumps into one, you stay put. Slide sideways to find a gap.
- Roads have cars and trucks that drive in one direction at their own speed. Touch one and you are flattened. Neighbouring lanes go opposite ways.
- Rivers are made of drifting logs. You must land on a log, which then carries you sideways. Hop off before it carries you off the edge of the screen. Landing in water ends the run.
- Train tracks are quiet until a warning light starts to flash, and about a second later a long train thunders across. Cross while the light is off, or wait until it has gone.
The camera moves forward slowly on its own. If you hang around too long, the bottom of the screen catches up and the run is over, so keep moving. The red glow at the bottom edge is your warning.
Scoring
Your score is the furthest row you have reached. Hopping sideways or back never loses points, and your best row is saved on your device. The longer you survive, the faster the camera creeps and the quicker the traffic gets. Rivers appear after a few rows, and trains a little later.
Tips
- Look one row ahead. Pick a gap in the next lane before you hop, not after.
- Watch the lane speeds. A fast lane has bigger gaps but they close quickly. Trucks are longer than cars, so give them more room.
- Logs move, so aim ahead. Hop onto a log that is heading toward your column, and keep the middle of the log under you.
- Use grass to rest. Grass rows are safe places to look around, but remember the camera keeps creeping.
- Respect the light. When the signal flashes, don’t step onto the tracks.
- Going back is allowed. If a tree or a bad gap blocks you, swipe down, shift sideways and try again.
Why it’s fun
Hop Lane is simple to learn and hard to put down. Every row is a small timing puzzle, and runs are short. Rows are different on every run, so there is always a new path to find.
