Tile Tap

Tap every glowing tile before it slips away. Tile Tap is a free rhythm tapping game. Tap glowing tiles in four columns as they fall, hold the long ones, and keep up as the speed rises.

How to play

Glowing tiles slide down four columns. Tap the lowest tile that is still lit, then the next one, and so on. The first tile waits for you at the bottom, and the stream only starts moving once you tap it.

You lose the run in three ways:

  • A tile reaches the bottom of the screen without being tapped.
  • You tap empty space in a column where there is no tile. The spot you touched flashes red.
  • You let go of a long tile too soon. The tile you dropped flashes red.

Tiles further up the stream are not live yet, so touching one by accident does nothing. Only the lowest untapped tile counts. You can tap a tile even when only part of it is still on screen.

Some tiles are long. Press them and keep your finger down while the tile lights up from the bottom. Lift only once it is completely lit, which happens as it passes a faint dashed line near the bottom of the screen. While you hold, a second finger can tap the next tile in another column, so multi-touch is part of the game.

On a keyboard, press Space to tap the next tile, or use D, F, J and K (or 1 to 4) for the four columns. Hold a key to hold a long tile.

Scoring

  • Each tile you tap is 1 point. A long tile scores when you first press it.
  • The stream starts calm and speeds up with every tile, up to a fast top speed.
  • Long tiles only start to appear after your first eight taps, and they become a little more common as you go.

Tips

  • Look one tile ahead. Find the next column while your finger is still on its way.
  • Use both hands. Taking turns with a finger on each side keeps your rhythm steady at high speed.
  • Hold long tiles with one finger and keep tapping with the other. That is the way to stay smooth.
  • Do not rush ahead. A tap on empty space is the fastest way to end a run, so tap what you see.

Why it’s fun

Tile Tap is a simple idea that gets your pulse going. Columns light up as you tap, the tiles pulse along with the speed, and the pattern is different every time. A run takes a minute, your best score is saved on your device, and one more try is always tempting.
