Meme Caption Battle

  • 3–10 players
  • Type on the on-screen keyboard or a real one, tap to vote
  • Party games

Caption the cartoon, vote for the funniest one. Play Meme Caption Battle free, a funny caption party game for 3 to 10 players. Write captions for cartoon pictures and vote, online or on one phone.

How to play

Every round shows a funny cartoon picture: a cat staring at a laptop full of errors, a chef proudly serving a burnt dish, an astronaut who finds a chai stall on the moon, a dog stuck between two doors and many more. There are 27 original scenes, drawn just for this game, and no picture repeats in a game.

Everyone writes a caption for it, up to 60 characters. Your caption appears in a white band above the picture, just like a real meme, so you can see how it reads while you type. Stuck? Tap Skip.

Then the captions are shown without names, in a shuffled order. Flip through them with the arrows or the numbers and vote for the funniest one. You can’t vote for your own. After the vote, everyone sees who wrote what and how many votes each caption got.

Choose 3, 5 or 8 rounds before you start.

Online with friends

Create a room, share the link, and each friend plays on their own phone or computer. You have 60 seconds to write and 40 seconds to vote, and each step ends early once everyone is done. Your caption is only shown on your own screen until the vote.

On one phone

A cover screen says “Pass to Priya” with the picture on it. She writes her caption in secret and passes the phone on. When everyone has written one, put the phone in the middle and read all the captions together. Then each player gets a private turn (“Rahul, tap your favourite”) to vote, and finally everyone watches the results.

Scoring

  • 1 point for every vote your caption gets.
  • 1 bonus point for the round’s top caption. If two captions tie for the most votes, both get the bonus.

The highest total after the last round wins, and tied players share the win. If someone leaves an online game and doesn’t come back within 30 seconds, they are out and nobody waits for them.

Keep it friendly

Captions with swear words, slurs or links are refused, and you are asked to try another one. Everybody in the room sees every caption, so keep it fun for all.

Tips

  • Say what the character is thinking. “When the teacher says the test is open book” works better than describing the picture.
  • Short is funny. The best captions are often under ten words.
  • Write for this room. An inside joke your friends share can win every vote.

Good for any group

Meme Caption Battle shines at parties, in classrooms and on video calls. Nobody needs to draw, just to be a little silly. Every player has a colour and a shape, so scores are easy to follow for colour-blind players too.
