Type a word with the letters before the bomb blows. Play Word Bomb free, a fast word game for 2 to 8 players. Type a word with the letters before the bomb explodes, online with a link or on one phone.
How to play
A lit bomb sits in the middle of the table with a few letters on it, like ING, TR or OU. Whoever holds it must type an English word that contains those letters, anywhere in the word, and press Go. “Singing”, “trumpet” and “cloud” all work. The word must be a real word of 3 to 12 letters, and nobody may use the same word twice in a game.
A good word passes the bomb to the next player round the table, with the same letters. The fuse does not reset. Every bomb has a secret fuse of somewhere between 8 and 22 seconds, so it might go off on the first player or the fifth. Once it is nearly burnt out, each new holder still gets at least 4 seconds to answer. There is no countdown on screen. Watch the bomb instead: it ticks faster, glows and shakes harder as the end gets close.
When it explodes, the player holding it loses a life. A fresh bomb with new letters then starts with the next player. Run out of lives and you are out. The last player with a life left wins.
Online with friends
Create a room, share the link, and everyone plays on their own phone or computer. You can type a word while you wait, then press Go the moment the bomb reaches you. Wrong words never leave your phone: you just see “Not in our list” or “Used already” and can try again.
On one phone
Pass the phone, which is the classic way to play. The name of the player holding the bomb is shown in big letters, so everyone knows whose turn it is. Type, press Go and hand it on fast.
Rules
- Choose 1, 2 or 3 lives on the setup screen. Two is the default.
- Letters only: no spaces, numbers or names.
- Computer players can fill empty seats. They think like people: quick on easy letters, and slower on hard ones, so sometimes they get caught too.
- If someone leaves an online game, the computer plays their seat for the rest of the game. If only two players are left, the other one wins.
Tips
- Short words are fine. “Ring” counts just as much as “interesting” and is quicker to type.
- Think while you wait. The letters stay the same until the bomb goes off, so have a word ready before it reaches you.
- Endings are your friend. Letters like ING or LY fit the end of hundreds of words.
- Don’t panic-type. A wrong word costs you seconds. A careful one passes the bomb on.
