  • 2–8 players
  • Type on the on-screen keyboard or a real one
  • Party games

Say what your friends say and score together. Play Same Brain free, a think-alike party game for 2 to 8 players. Answer fun prompts and score when your answers match, online with a link or on one phone.

How to play

Every round shows a prompt such as “Name a yellow fruit”, “A snack you eat at the cinema” or “Best day of the week”. Everyone secretly types one answer, up to 20 characters. The trick is not to be clever: you want to say exactly what everyone else will say.

When all the answers are in, they are revealed together, grouped by match. The biggest group is celebrated at the top, and every player can see who thought alike.

Choose 5, 8, 10 or 12 rounds before you start. There are more than 190 prompts about food, school, home, animals, places and everyday things, and a game never repeats one.

Online with friends

Create a room, share the link, and each friend answers on their own phone or computer. You have 35 seconds per prompt, and the round ends early as soon as everyone has locked in. Only your own answer is shown on your screen until the reveal. After about ten seconds the next round starts by itself, or the host can tap Next round.

On one phone

A cover screen says “Pass to Priya”, with the prompt on it so she can start thinking. She taps, types her answer in secret and locks it in, then the phone goes to the next player. When everyone has answered, put the phone in the middle and tap Reveal the answers.

Scoring

You score 1 point for every other player whose answer matches yours. If four of you say “banana”, each of you scores 3. A lonely answer scores nothing.

Matching is forgiving. Capitals, spaces and punctuation don’t matter, a leading “a”, “an” or “the” is ignored, and simple plurals count as the same word, so “Apples”, “an apple” and “apple” all match. A small list of common synonyms matches too: TV and television, mobile and phone, mum and mother, chai and tea, maths and math, and number words like “seven” and “7”.

The highest total after the last round wins, and tied players share the win.

Two players

With two players Same Brain is a team game. Every round you both match is a point for the pair, and the end screen shows how in sync you were, such as “You matched 6 of 8”.

If someone leaves an online game and doesn’t return within 30 seconds, they are out and nobody waits for them. With fewer than two players left, the game ends.

Tips

  • Go for the obvious. The first answer that pops into your head is usually the one everyone else picks.
  • Think about the group. Playing with cricket fans? The famous cricketer is probably the obvious one.
  • Keep it short. One plain word matches more often than a long description.

Great for groups

Same Brain is quick to learn and works for classrooms, families, long journeys and video calls. Every player has a colour and a shape, so the reveal is easy to follow for colour-blind players too.
